Exchange 2010 imap account stops working requesting password, and only starts after restarting M.E. IMAP4 service

Hello all,

We have one exchange server 2010 running at 2008R2 system, interacting with Active Directory 2012R2 domain controller.

A few day´s ago one imap account stops working without any detected modification; At client side Outlook, is requesting password without reason, as password is correct and not modified, even re-typing correct password the behavior is the same. Outlook clients are the same no upgrade to other version.

This account is configured at 3 ´different users using IMAP, and start this behavior without any apparent reason, all other exchangeaccounts are working without this problem, we only need one account as imap.

After many attempts, we noted stopping Microsoft Exchange IMAP4 service and restarting it again, this account starts working normally for a few day´s, but without any configuration action the account still persist stopping, requesting password at Outlook client side, so our solution is restart again IMAP4 service.

We want to migrate exchange to 2013 or even 2016 as client have licenses to do it, but our concern is at migration we can migrate this problem or worse this situation.

Any guidance to solve this will be welcome

Hello,

i've this problem, got a big multi hosting structure based on Exchange 2010 SP1. I need to move all users in a new organization Exhange 2016 but exporting manually in PST mailbox by mailbox all e-mails keep the old X400 which is not good resolved by Exchange 2016. If a migrated user takes an old mail and replay, mail goes outside but the recipient cannot answare without getting back a NDR. So my targhet is adding the X500 to the actual Exchange 2010 SP1 structure in order to migrate all mailboxes manually without problem. I'm wondering if SP3 can solve this problem or if there is a massive solution to add X500 to all users by powershell.

All,

I have come across an issue recently where we receive bounce backs when sending to a site that we host.  We host the site, but do not host the e-mail.  When we send an e-mail we immediately get a kick back with the error listed below.

#5.0.0 smtp; 5.1.2 - Bad destination host 'DNS Hard Error looking up (A): domain has no A record'

Any ideas as to what I'm missing here?

Can an attachment be sent on a meeting room request's autoresponse in either outlook 2007 or exchange 2010

I have a user requesting that the automated response for a meeting room resource mailbox have an attachement automatically attached. The attachment is a terms of use disclosure form. Is there way of doing this in either Exchange 2010 or Outlook 2007?

Hi, i'm having a domain in my private network (Win sbs server 2011 with MS Exchange server 2010). I'm trying do define my email account to use from a computer in my home, out of this network. I'm using Win10 Pro with Office 365. Going to control panel >> mail & define everything, but i'm getting the message "can't connect to exchange server....". When i'm doing the same actions & settings using other computer (win 7 + office 2010 \ win 10 + office 2010 \ Outlook app for ios) also out of this network - everythong is ok & i use this email from those computers. Is there any known prob using outlook 2016 with exchange server? i noticed that there isn't an "exchange" option in the settings, only "exchange active" or somethong like this.

Continuous Backup solution for Exchange Server 2010

Hi, I'm using Exchange Server 2010 with DAG. My users created some rules in Outlook. The rule is move messages from someone to personal folder. My backup schedule is set to 9:00 pm everyday. We found cannot recover some email if the user enable that rules because the email moved to personal folder directly. My question is have any backup solution or third party software can continuous backup the Exchange Server 2010 without data loss? 

I enabled Journal backup to keep all incoming and outgoing messages, but it hard to recover to single mailbox.

Problem removing a Exchange Federation Trust

Hi, 

I'm having a problem removing a Federation Trust.  I have removed the Organisation Relationship successfully. However when I go to remove the trust by Powershell  I get the following error

Can't remove federation trust "Microsoft Federation Gateway". It's in use by the following organization(s): CN=Federation,CN=XXXXXX,CN=Microsoft Exchange,CN=Services,CN=Configuration,DC=XXXXX,DC=local

I cant seem to make other changes to it either, I cant add a domain, remove domain.  I have seen references to delete the object in the Schema but dont really want to do that unless I know it wont cause other problems as I need to recreate this.

Self-signed certificate on Exchange 2010 Mailbox Role server

The self-signed certificate on my Exchange 2010 mailbox role server is expiring and I wonder if there is a need to renew this self-signed cert. I have checked that there is no services enabled for this certificate.

Can contact Exchange server outside the building but not inside

I have a user with a new Surface Pro 4 tablet that will primarily be used offsite. For this reason, it hasn't been added to our domain. We do have a guest wireless network, which he will be using in-house if needed.  I set up an Exchange email account on the tablet. It works fine on other networks outside the building but consistently gives an error when trying to download mail on our guest network. Manual sync produces the same error. 

We have many smartphones and some tablets that have Exchange accounts that are able to pick up their mail in-house. Can anyone point me to a setting in Exchange or any other solution to resolve this issue? We have an on-premise Exchange Server 2010.

Message being rejected due to size limit - how do I increase maximum size?

I have my ISP email forwarded to a Gmail account and then forwarded to my Exchange account.  I have an email sitting in the Gmail account that has 4 attachments, totalling 21095KB.    I can't for the life of me get it to transfer to my Exchange server.  I keep making changes to Exchange and then re-forwarding the message, but every time I get the following message:

Technical details of permanent failure:
Google tried to deliver your message, but it was rejected by the recipient domain. We recommend contacting the other email provider for further information about the cause of this error. The error that the other server returned was: 552 552 5.3.4 Message size exceeds fixed maximum message size (state 18).

I have searched and searched for the answer to this issue.  I modified the max message size send and receive connectors on my Exchange server and set it to 25600KB (25MB).  I also modified the global settings to that same capacity.  Here is the readout of Get-ReceiveConnector:

I've also verified that my user account does not have a specific message size limit imposed on it.

I have tried restarting the Transport service in addition to restarting the whole server multiple times after adjusting various values.  What must I do to allow up to 25MB of attachments?

Transaport rule will strip out all custom hyperlinks in the email

We have a transport rule on the Exchange Server to add signatures to outgoing emails for certain people. 

The rule description is like this:

Apply rule to messages

from a member of 'some people'

'append' '

<br/>

<hr/>

some text for the signature.' and fallback to 'wrap' if unable to apply.

Now the problem is, if there is a custom protocol hyperlink within the email, after the email is sent, the hyperlink will be removed from the email.

For example, for this email content:

Line1 <a href="abc:address1">text 1</a>

Line 2 <a href="http:address2">text 2</a>

After this email is sent, the hyperlink for text 1 will be stripped out. Whoever receives the email will see it like this (text 1 is still a hyperlink, but pointing to nowhere, and no problem for text2):

Line1 <a href="">text 1</a>

Line 2 <a href="http:address2">text 2</a>

(horizontal line)

some text for the signature.

Can anybody help to figure out how to get around this? Is this a bug on Exchange Server?

Send connector for different domain

Dear all,

I have a Exchange 2010 SP3 system with two cas-hub servers and two mailbox servers in a DAG. I also have three companies hosting in system with different domains. Now I want to route the out-going mail-flow so that:

- All people in the same Active Directory but different OU & UPN suffix.

- People in domain abc.com send email outside via smart host 1.

- People in domain xyz.com send email outside via smart host 2.

I spent time to find solution but nothing match my goal perfectly.

Please give me an advise  for my situation.

Changing Autodiscover SCP and Client Access URLs

Before moving to Exchange 2016 I would like to change the existing Exchange Server 2010 configuration. We are currently using mail.domain.com for external client access URLs and server.domain.com for internal URLs. The Autodiscover SCP is also server.domain.com. Per best practices (http://exchangeserverpro.com/exchange-best-practices-client-access-namespaces/) I would like to change the Internal URLs to mail.domain.com and Autodiscover SCP to autodiscover.domain.com. Will changing the SCP and URLs cause downtime to currently connected clients (Outlook, ActiveSync)? I can't imagine the SCP value would cause an issue since it is stored in Active Directory and only queried during the Autodiscover process. I'm more worried about changing the URLs.

Backup AD + Exchange with no image

Hello,

I have a machine (W2k8 R2) which holds both AD and Exchange 2010.

As far as I know, by backing up the system state, you are backing up the whole AD, but I would like to also include Exchange 2010 without making an image of the whole computer.

Could I do that with the native Windows Backup Feature?.

Exchange 2010 Scripting Agent File Not Found

I have a scripting agent xml file which I have copied to all of my exchange mailbox servers.

It actions on the completion of update mailbox at the end of a move request.

For servers outside of my primary site it errors with filenotfound even though the file is in the location that it is referencing.

Error code: -2146233088

Trying to add permission to user via shell

So I have a user here in which I need to grant PublishingEditor permissions on two specific public folders but when I enter the command in the shell, I get the error below. Can anyone help? I can see the list of users that have permissions but it won't let me add this user.

Cluster Service not functioning, as a result DAG does not work

Recently we have had issues with our DAG setup.

After  reboot of the mail servers, I noticed that the Cluster Service was not started.  I started it, however, DAG is still not functioning.

When I open the Failover Cluster MMC and click Start Cluster Service, it takes a long time, so I have to cancel the start at about 2:30 minutes.

In looking at the event logs, I see event ID 1573 for FailOverClustering:  Node 'servername' failed to form a cluster.  This was because the witness was not accessible.  please ensure that the witness resource is online and available.

PST import in Exchange 2010

Hi everyone!

I am in need of advice and expertise. I am going to import a few PST files via the Exchange Management Shell for existing user mailboxes. My question is when I do this will it overwrite any existing mail that the users already have or will it simply merge the mail and folders together? I am planning to use the below command to perform the import. It is Exchange 2010 SP1.

new-mailboximportrequest -filepath "\\pst file location" -mailbox "alias" -baditemlimit 5
