OWA - Attachment replaced with text

$

0

I'm looking into a issue at the moment whereby if a user opens/saves an attachment from within OWA the contents of the file are replaced with "This attachment was removed because it contains data that could pose a security risk."

Now the attachment in question is an application generated file that is essentially a RAW html file except is has a .wft extension - In other words, If I change the extension to .html it will open as a fully formatted webpage... no problems.

I've jumped into OWA's properties and edited the Direct File Access Settings. Firstly to include .wft as a known file type  - this provided me with the option to open aswell as save, but the contents are still replaced with the same string "This attachment was removed because it contains data that could pose a security risk."

As a test I then removed all of the blocked content types from within Direct File Access - alas with the same results. I have now added all the blocked content types back as per default. I'm really scratching my head here as the file will save and open perfectly within Outlook 2007. So its only a problem in OWA.

any thoughs about how I can save or open these attachments in OWA and still maintain the content?

Transport Rules - BCC to Distribution List

$

Hi,

I am trying to implement a transport rule on Exchange 2010 SP3 RU14 that would block messages sent from addresses not present on the predifined list (some of those addresses are from outside Exchange organization).

I was able to create rule which works as intended if the distribution list's address is in the To or CC fields but I cannot make it work with messages where address is specified in BCC field.

Is there any transport rule condition to match the distribution list address in BCC field ?

Install second exchange 2010 server in existing domain

Dear all,

Firstly, thanks for taking your precious time to read this. I want to test on a new setup recently:

I have an exiting domain controller(Win2008 r2): aaa.local + exchange 2010 server(Win2008 r2): @aaa.com. Serving our company staff about 5 years so far. This exchange server has 2 NIC: one local ip is 192.168.1.1 and one public ip is 211.211.211.100

If I want to setup another exchange 2010 server(Win2008 r2) in the same domain. This will serve another group of staff and using @bbb.com.  This exchange server has 2 NIC: one local ip is 192.168.1.2 and one public ip is 211.211.211.200

1) is this possible?

will this mess up the @aaa.com?

2) Any document I can refer to if it is possible to do that?

Thanks in advance ;)

Finding References to a Deleted Mailbox

$

Hi,

We sometimes get an issue where when we delete a mailbox that is no longer used, if someone's Outlook has that mailbox added an ancillary mailbox, that user's Outlook will hang/crash and be almost unusable. When you remove the ancillary mailbox it's ok.

Is there a way to find users who have deleted mailboxes added? We normally just rely on them contacting the helpdesk but we'd like to take a more proactive approach.

Many thanks,

Dave

Exchange 2010 imap account stops working requesting password, and only starts after restarting M.E. IMAP4 service

Hello all,

We have one exchange server 2010 running at 2008R2 system, interacting with Active Directory 2012R2 domain controller.

A few day´s ago one imap account stops working without any detected modification; At client side Outlook, is requesting password without reason, as password is correct and not modified, even re-typing correct password the behavior is the same. Outlook clients are the same no upgrade to other version.

This account is configured at 3 ´different users using IMAP, and start this behavior without any apparent reason, all other exchangeaccounts are working without this problem, we only need one account as imap.

After many attempts, we noted stopping Microsoft Exchange IMAP4 service and restarting it again, this account starts working normally for a few day´s, but without any configuration action the account still persist stopping, requesting password at Outlook client side, so our solution is restart again IMAP4 service.

We want to migrate exchange to 2013 or even 2016 as client have licenses to do it, but our concern is at migration we can migrate this problem or worse this situation.

Any guidance to solve this will be welcome

Thank you.

KB3151097 and KB3184728 install at the same time...?

Hi guys,

I just wanted to know if anyone has any issues or experienced in installing these 2 RU's for DAG exchange server 2010? I held back on installing these due to what I've been reading online where CPU utilization went up and OWA connection issues after installing kb3151097. I don't want to be too far behind on updates but want to know if anyone has installed these RU's at the same time? I'm current as far as window OS updates. I don't have a lab DAG environment so no way of testing it. Thanks for any feedback.

Exporting Mailboxes to PST's in Manageable Chunks (2 Gb if Possible)

Exchange 2010 - Outlook 2007

Here's the problem.  We are looking to export around 200 mailboxes into pst's -- but some of the mailboxes (around 20) are in the ballpark of 10 Gb.  I'm looking at the Export-Mailbox function of PowerShell, but it seems as if it will export the mailbox in one large pst.  I'm under the impression that pst's shouldn't be larger than 2 Gbor you run the risk of corruption.  Is there any variable in PowerShell to break the pst's down into chunks?  I've seen a vb script online and some free tools -- unfortunately I will not be able to use these due to the nature of my job.  I will only be able to use Microsoft approved tools.  All of the users that have large mailboxes are remote users using OWA and I don't trust them to archive their mailboxes locally.  If anyone has any suggestions I would truly appreciate it!!!!

Good evening! PLease help - my Exchange 2010 has been unexpectedly stopped so database is out of order now, eseutil /mh showed me:

I decided to check logs:

Operation terminated with error -4001 (JET_errFileIOBeyondEOF, a read was issued to a location beyond EOF (writes will expand the file)) after 1833.714 seconds.

As far as I understand, there is some absent log files - E00000024EF5-0000024F09. How can I fix this problem?  How can I switch my database to "Clean Shutdown"? Thank you.

Cluster Service not functioning, as a result DAG does not work

Recently we have had issues with our DAG setup.

After  reboot of the mail servers, I noticed that the Cluster Service was not started.  I started it, however, DAG is still not functioning.

When I open the Failover Cluster MMC and click Start Cluster Service, it takes a long time, so I have to cancel the start at about 2:30 minutes.

In looking at the event logs, I see event ID 1573 for FailOverClustering:  Node 'servername' failed to form a cluster.  This was because the witness was not accessible.  please ensure that the witness resource is online and available.

Exchange 2010 - Event ID 8528 - Microsoft Exchange Federation Mailbox is full

Hi,

We are getting the following warning every 10 minutes on a Exchange 2010 server:

The mailbox for /o=COMPANY/ou=Exchange Administrative Group (FYDIBOHF23SPDLT)/cn=Recipients/cn=FederatedEmail.4c1f4d8b-8179-4148-93bf-00a9 has exceeded the maximum mailbox size. This mailbox cannot send or receive messages. Incoming messages to this mailbox are returned to sender.  The mailbox owner should be notified about the condition of the mailbox as soon as possible.

I have been searching and searching but I cannot find much information on this Federation Mailbox other than the fact that it's an arbitration mailbox and that it is used for federation between different Exchange organizations and is available since Exchange 2010. Its display name is Microsoft Exchange Federation Mailbox.

However, I have no clue if it is normal that this mailbox is getting full and if the quota can or should be increased.

Here is some more information about the mailbox:

Hello everyone,

I need help with Exchange 2010 Event ID 139 and 531 from one of our Exchange multi role server which it is member of DAG with another 10 servers.

We implemented SCOM recently and I noticed SCOM with Exchange 2010 MP is firing alert from one server with below alert description

<<

Date and Time:1/17/2017 6:19:57 AM
Log Name:Application
Source:ExchangeStoreDB
Event Number:118

Description:
At '1/17/2017 6:19:57 AM' the copy of database 'DBxxx' on this server appears to be experiencing performance issues, possibly as a result of storage failure. Consult the event log on the server for other storage and "ExchangeStoreDb" events for more specific information about the failure. Recovery was not attempted.

>>

And When I checked the server's event logs under Application logs, I see event 139 error and right after it event 531 warning logged in the server:

<<<<

Event 531  Warning

Information Store (12548) The database engine attempted a clean write operation on page 4103753 of database D:\Exchange\DB3xx\DB3xx.edb. This acton was performed in an attempt to correct a previous problem reading from the page.

Event 139 Error

At '1/17/2017 1:04:35 PM' the copy of database 'DBxxx' on this server appears to be experiencing performance issues, possibly as a result of storage failure. Consult the event log on the server for other storage and "ExchangeStoreDb" events for more specific information about the failure. Recovery was not attempted.

>>>

Below is KB provided by SCOM and not sure if it is related to above event logs in the server.

https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/3f05ea1c-6937-472f-8d7b-06055174fdcd.aspx

We are having EMC storage attached to our exchange server and our EMC engineer runs performance report from their end and they did not find anything wrong with the storage.

I appreciate your time reading my post and providing me support here with both SCOM 2012 R2 alert and Exchange 2010 SP1 events.

Thanks,
