Moving a hybrid installation

We're in an Exchange 2010 hybrid with Office 365, and I have tried in 'slow time' to get an Exch 13 server (VM) up and running to replace it. I know that Exchange upgrades are not to be taken lightly and I wish I'd been given time to work at it. However, the situation is that I can't configure the EWS virtual directory in the HCW.

I am guessing that the Cumulative Update might be the issue - and I need to install each update in sequence?

Mailflow seems to be working - the only thing I've noted is that my test mailbox goes into junk in my Office 365 account.

Unable to assign Mailbox Folder Permissions to a security group

I'm running Exchange 2010 SP2 and unable to assign Mailbox Folder Permissions to a group.

I'm running the following command:

Add-MailboxFolderPermission -Identity User@Domain.com -UserGroup@Domain.com -AccessRights Reviewer

If I use the primary SMTP address the error reads "The user "group@domain" is either not valid SMTP address, or there is no matching information.

If I use domain\group name, the error reads "The user "Group" was found in Active Directory but isn't valid to use for permissions. Try an SMTP address instead."

Anyone have a solution?

What is the Powershell command to pull all the distribution list details from exchange 2010 environment?

It should have primary SMTP address, type of Distribution list, and the members.

Note: There are more than 1000 Distribution lists.

Exchange 2010 SP3 Apply KB4536989 Error Ended Prematurely

Hello,

I am not sure if this is the right place to ask this question.
I was trying to apply the latest KB4536989 patch to my Exchange 2010 SP3 server which has hub transport, mail server and edge transport in one place.

When I tried to apply it, it came back with the following error.
I reran it again by using "Run as Admin" but the same result.
Does anyone encounter the same error?

Exchange Database DB1\\EXC001 Copy Status: FailedAndSuspended

I get these alerts time to time for various DBs on our DAG nodes. Exchange 2010 SP RU29

In this scenario when I check the DB1 on exchange exc001 it is active and copy is healthy and no relevant errors on exc001 under Microsoft> HA > Operational logs or application logs

Trendmicro AV exclusions are in place.  These alerts also show up outside the exchange backup time windows.

I am seeing tons of warnings in system logs on EXC001

Windows successfully diagnosed a low virtual memory condition. The following programs consumed the most virtual memory: TMBMSRV.exe (32204) consumed 67904040960 bytes, store.exe (4256) consumed 58083745792 bytes, and w3wp.exe (9968) consumed 10730725376 bytes.

TMBMSRV.exe (trendmicro security agent running on this server)

Any ideas? Thank you

MSExchangeECPAppPool

We have two W2K8 R2 Exchange 2010 SP3 RU11 Multi Role servers with 4 CPU's. One of which has the w3wp MSExchangeECPAppPool process sitting around 50% CPU. This results in the server fluctuating around 70%-100% overall CPU. This is in complete contrast to the other server which is sits between 27%-50% overall CPU.

Why would the ECPAppPool process hog the CPU? I do not see anything in the event logs to indicate a cause.

The behaviour began around the time we applied May's security and critical updates. Short of removing the updates can anyone suggest a reason for this, or has anyone seen this before?

Exchange Cross Forest Migration

Hi All,

I need your help in terms of Exchange - O365 migrations related queries.

Currently we are running on Exchange 2010 SP3 - update 25 (ABC.COM) with On Premise AD and we have another org in office 365 E-3 environment with 500 users as (XYZ.COM) as seperate entity with Azure AD.

Now, we would like to centralize mail flow from our Exchange 2010 on prem. environment where each policy / emails should come on prem first and then it should flow further.

I just wanted to know how we can take this ahead in terms of AD/ Exchange Migration and what would be the first step for the same

Thanks in Advance

DAG cluster errors

Dear All,

We are running a 2 node Exchange 2010 SP3 UR30 DAG cluster on Windows 2008 R2 SP1 server. Almost every day, around midnight, I see the same sequence of event ID's (system event log).

1135Cluster node '<node name>' was removed from the active failover cluster membership
1564File share witness resource 'File Share Witness <file share witness name>' failed to arbitrate for the file share '<file share name>'
1069Cluster resource 'File Share Witness <file share witness name>' in clustered service or application 'Cluster Group' failed
1177The Cluster service is shutting down because quorum was lost
7024The Cluster Service service terminated with service-specific error %%5925
7031The Cluster Service service terminated unexpectedly
1135Cluster node '<node name>' was removed from the active failover cluster membership

What could possibly be causing these errors?

Many thanks in advance,

What files can be removed when removing a database

$

Hello All,

I have unmounted and removed an Exchange database from our Exchange 2010 organization. I also removed the edb file as noted in the pop-up massage.

There are a few log files that have a date-time stamp that is before the time I unmounted the database. There is also a folder named CatalogData followed by a long alphanumeric string.

Can these files or folders be deleted as well? They don't consume hardly any disk space so there isn't a real benefit to removing them. However, I would like to clean things up as much as possible.

Thanks for any thought on this.

exchange server certificate

Hi,

My client is running SBS 2011 (window server 2008 R2 with exchange 2010).

I just renew self-signed certificate using sbs console->fix my network->renew certificate.

The certificate is renew successfully.

Below is the screenshot from sbs console certificate property

below is the screenshot from exchange console when I click on exchange server (Microsoft Exchange On-Premises->server configuration)

II can see that the new certificate is active and assigned to IMAP, POP, IIS, SMTP, but my question is on the self signed column it say False, how do I change it to true?, since it causing problem with client validating the certificate and create SSL/TLS issue with outlook.

I appreciated if you could shed some light on how to fix this issue, previously I did the same thing if you see the certificate that just expire on 13/03/2020, the self signed column it say true, not sure why this time it say false.

NB: I could not find the category for exchange 2010 so I click on 2013

Thank you

Hi,

I am running an on-premise Exchange Server 2016 CU12 with all current updates as of 3/18/2020.  Is our Exchange Server vulnerable to the remote code execution vulnerability known as CVE-2020-0688?  I know there are patches for CU13 -CU15 but nothing for CU12.

Thanks,

2008 r2 exchange 2010 ciphers tls iis crypto?

I've been charged with migrating to exchange 2016.

I've also been charged with securing the existing exchange 2010 platform that exists.

There's 2 front end HUB/CAS servers and 3 backend mailbox servers.

all 2008 r2 with latest updates and cu30.

One of the main lacking security items on this legacy platform is ciphers, ssl/tls versions are way behind and i am not sure the best way to do this to not break client access and cause a problem with exchange itself.

I've found that IIS Crypto tool is an easy way to comply with the latest ciphers and tls/ssl settings.

Is this true? Any issues with 2008 r2/exchange 2010 that I should be aware of?

I'm going to test this in a lab, but that isnt exactly a mirror image of our production env.

Exchange 2010 SP3 RU 30 and domain controller versions

$

We are planning on migrating to Office 365 this year however we still have a pair of clustered Exchange 2010 SP3 RU30 servers to support. In the interim we are also updating our domain controllers. Most of them are Windows 2008 R2 with one Windows 2016 and the domain function level is Windows 2009 R2.

I have looked for what the serviceable level of domain controllers E2010 SP3 RU30 can run with and there's a bit of confusion. One place says max is 2012 R2, on says 2016. One even says 2019 but it's unclear.

Presently I am installing Windows 2019 domain controllers and I would at least like to raise the domain function level to Windows 2012 R2 for the near future, 2016 function level by the end of the summer and perhaps when we will have our migration to 365 going.

Is this a viable option or am I stuck with Server 2016 with AD at 2012 R2?

Exchange 2010 Mailbox Recovery trouble

Exchange 2010 SP3 RU30, DAG

I have restored a recovery database to one of the servers in the DAG however I am having trouble moving mail from the recovery DB into the user's mailbox that needs the email recovered. I have two questions:

First is that I'm getting the following error every time I run this command:

[PS] C:\Windows\system32>Restore-Mailbox -Identity "USER" -RecoveryDatabase RecoDB3 -RecoveryMailbox "USER" -TargetFolder Recover0320 -BadItemLimit 1000

    + FullyQualifiedErrorId : 3DF847B,Microsoft.Exchange.Management.RecipientTasks.RestoreMailbox

Note that EMC appears to be moving mail and gets to about half way complete before spitting out the error message.

Despite that the error code seems to be that the DB isn't or can't be mounted the Exchange system shows otherwise. Running:

And I can unmount and remount that recovery DB all day long with no errors.

Is there a way around this?

Also if I can't simply move the data into his mailbox can I export from the RecoveryDB into a PST?
