Exchange 2010 Hybrid - legacy Public Folders

$

We have Exchange 2010 SP3 rollup 12 with legacy public folders.
The Exchange 2010 server is CAS+MBX
We have completed the Hybrid Configuration and everything is working, move mailbox, free busy etc.

The only thing is that moved user mailboxes to Office 365 don't see the on-premise public folders on Exchange 2010.

I have followed the arcticle below but when we start Outlook 2013 click on ... and then Folders we don't see the Public Folders section.
https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dn249373(v=exchg.150).aspx#Discoverable

-created new DB
-created new user+mailbox & hidefromaddresslist
-dirsync user to office 365
-FQDN of exchange server was already in the database
-ran the set-organizationconfig in Exchange online topublic folders REMOTE and remote public folder name to the mailbox name i created previously

There where no errors but in Outlook I dont see the public folder section and thus public folders.

When i run testexchangeconnectivity.com with an account in O365 i see:

<PublicFolderServer>outlook.office365.com</PublicFolderServer>

I dont know if this is expected, unfortunately i cant ctrl+shift+outlook icon cause this is disabled on the machines

Offline Global Address List not updating

Hi, Guys.

Need your assistance on this.

How do you troubleshoot when Offline Global Address List is not updating? How do we know if everyone is affected? How do we know if offline GAL / Address Book is working properly on server level? How do we isolate if the issue is just on client level? Please advise.

Appreciate your help on this.

Thank you.

Information Store not starting

Hi

SBS 2011 std/Exchange 2010.

Occasionally when server is restarted the Information Store Service is not started. A server restart usually fixes it but it’s a pain. Below is example of events generated after server restart. Server was restarted at 4:30 am in this example.

How can I fix this?

Thanks

Selft Signed Certificate Error for clients connecting internally

$

Hello...

Environment 3 x Exchange 2010 Server

2 x Exchange Server primary site

1 x Exchange Server Secondary DR site

Windows 2008 Standard Edition R2

Before Change......

All 3 x exchange servers were behind TMG firewall. No issues connecting externally and internally. There is public and self signed certificate assigned to exchange servers

Internal and external URL for OWA and ECP are different.

After Change...

We have decommissioned our TMG server with Cisco ASA firewall

Since TMG has been decommissioned and 3 x exchange servers are behind ASA firewall. Only internal users are having certificate error popup every time they open and close outlook.

Troubleshooting..

To resolve issues I have setup split DNS for public domain name on internal DNS server.

Created CNAME against single exchange server

update internal URL for OWA and ECP same as external URL

Deleted profile from outlook and recreate profile

Above steps did not resolve the issue and I have rolled back.

Any feedback for resolution please?

Unexpected error "DOC_TOO_HUGE: There are not enough resources to process the document or row" occurred while indexing document.

What is the difference between Mail-enabled Distribution Groups and Mail-enabled Security Groups?

cannot figure out why this scheduled task will not work

$

I've tried a zillion things in the Actions panel and I still get an opcode of 2, supposedly meaning the file can't be found...AND no events ever get written into the log.

The parameters line is:

-version 2.0 -NonInteractive -WindowStyle Hidden -command ". 'C:\Program Files\Microsoft\Exchange Server\V14\bin\RemoteExchange.ps1'; Connect-ExchangeServer -auto; C:\scripts\Troubleshoot-DatabaseSpace.ps1 -Server e10 -PercentEdbFreeSpaceThreshold 10 -PercentLogFreeSpaceThreshold 10"

I get the same result if I point to this file in the Exchange scripts folder, I copied it from there into C:\scripts.

The action to run is:

C:\Windows\System32\WindowsPowerShell\v1.0\powershell.exe

The Start In is:

C:\Windows\System32\WindowsPowerShell\v1.0\

What is wrong with my setup, please????????

Scripts permission is RemoteSigned, the script works with all these parameters etc. if I manually run it from a batch file.

Thank you, Tom

Cloudmark "blacklist" querying facility.

Hi guys,

Numerous vendors and organisations maintain some kind of lookup facility where you can determine if a site is currently blocked, and perhpas in some instances trends such as for how long the block has been in place and the general reason for this being the case, yet I cannot find anything analagous to this for the Cloudmark service.

Examples of what I'm talking about are sites such as:

  • spamhaus.org
  • mxtoolbox.com
  • uribl.com
  • senderbase.org

Does anyone know if there is such a function provided by Cloudmark or Microsoft? (I'm not really expecting the latter, but it's worth asking)

Cheers,

MaxSessionsPerUser parameter in exchange 2010

$
0
0

Hello ,

It is suggested to increase the MaxSessionsPerUser parameter in microsoft.exchange.addressbook.service.exe file to 100000.

This will help in migration of exchange 2010 to office 365.

However , it is observed that the parameter is not present after exchange 2010 sp1 and needs to be added manually.

The current content of this file is

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8" ?>
<configuration>
    <runtime>
        <gcServer enabled="true" />
        <generatePublisherEvidence enabled="false"/>
    </runtime>
    <appSettings>
        <!-- Enables and disables the logging for the address book service. -->
        <add key="ProtocolLoggingEnabled" value="true" />

        <!-- Specifies the folder in which log files will be generated. -->
        <add key="LogFilePath" value="C:\Program Files\Microsoft\Exchange Server\V14\Logging\AddressBook Service\" />

        <!-- Specifies the max size that a single log file can grow to before a new one is generated. -->
        <add key="PerFileMaxSize" value="10MB" />

        <!-- Specifies the max size that the entire directory of logs can grow to before the oldest log is deleted. -->
        <add key="MaxDirectorySize" value="1GB" />

        <!-- Specifies length of time in hours log files will be retained before being deleted. -->
        <add key="MaxRetentionPeriod" value="720" />

        <!-- Specifies if we need to switch log file each hour. -->
        <add key="ApplyHourPrecision" value="true" />
    </appSettings>
</configuration>

The new file content will be

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8" ?>

<configuration>

    <runtime>

        <gcServer enabled="true" />

        <generatePublisherEvidence enabled="false"/>

    </runtime>

    <appSettings>

        <!-- Enables and disables the logging for the address book service. -->

        <add key="ProtocolLoggingEnabled" value="true" />

        <!-- Specifies the folder in which log files will be generated. -->

        <add key="LogFilePath" value="C:\Program Files\Microsoft\Exchange Server\V14\Logging\AddressBook Service\" />

        <!-- Specifies the max size that a single log file can grow to before a new one is generated. -->

        <add key="PerFileMaxSize" value="10MB" />

        <!-- Specifies the max size that the entire directory of logs can grow to before the oldest log is deleted. -->

        <add key="MaxDirectorySize" value="1GB" />

        <!-- Specifies length of time in hours log files will be retained before being deleted. -->

        <add key="MaxRetentionPeriod" value="720" />

         <!--Specifies the maximum number of sessions permitted per user. -->

        <add key="MaxSessionsPerUser" value="100000" />

        <!-- Specifies if we need to switch log file each hour. -->

        <add key="ApplyHourPrecision" value="true" />

    </appSettings>

</configuration>

Question : Is this modification advisable and will it cause any issue.

I understand this is basically increasing to successfully resolve all requests for lookups, the number of permitted connections are increased to a large value.

Now , after exchange 2010 SP1 , this particular value can be added in registry

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\services\MSExchangeAB\Parameters

New DWORD :Maxsessionsperuser

Value :100000

Exchange 2013

Verizon.net (FIOS) has changed their smtp relay from outgoing.verizon.net port 25 to smtp.verizon.net port 465 (SSL Enabled)

With username and password

I have changed my Send Connector smart host from outgoing.verizon.net to smtp.verizon.net

I have changed the port on the Send connector from 25 to 465

Send Connector Name is test

Protocol Logging shows:

I have tried this with IgnoreSTARTTLS true and false
I have tried this with <label for="ResultPanePlaceHolder_SendConnector_Delivery_contentContainer_chkSmartHostAuthMechanismBasicAuthRequireTLS" id="ResultPanePlaceHolder_SendConnector_Delivery_contentContainer_chkSmartHostAuthMechanismBasicAuthRequireTLS_label">Offer basic authentication only after starting TLS</label> on and off

Anything else I can try?

I have verified with openssl that I can connect and authenticate to smtp.verizon.net from the server

Using the Mail (32-Bit) control panel app we could previously go into email accounts

and update the Server Settings (server and user name). When we switched to Outlook 2013

that option is now greyed out. If I remove Outlook 2013 and reinstall Outlook 2010 the option

is enabled again.

 What change took place in Outlook 2013 that disabled this access? Is it possible to override?
