Multi tenant moving one tenant/domain to Office 365

$

Hello All,

I ask for your forgiveness if this double posts.  I was trying to re-categorize this and this is my first time using the Technet forums.

We have an in-house Exchange 2010 Server.  It runs WebsitePanel and we have multiple clients on it.  This weekend, we used SkyKick to migrate our domains over to Office 365.  Everything is flowing correctly for all external mail and inter company mail.

The issue arises when one of the other tenants on the server sends email to our domain.  It delivers it to the old (in-house) Exchange server instead of sending it to the Office 365 server.

We don't want to shut down the old servers for a few days just in case things are delayed in routing changes due to DNS, etc.

How can I make the other tenants follow the path in the MX record and deliver to our migrated domain at Office 365 instead of sending it to the "internal" old domain that is still on the same Exchange server?

Any help or thoughts would be greatly appreciated,

Thanks

Jason

CAS certificate warning

I set up Exchange 2010 environment and got the certificate for CAS server and installed it.  But the issue is that internal domain name and external domain name are different and since internal domain name has been registered by someone in Russia, I can't request internal domain name to be on the SAN certificate.  Let's say internal name for CAS is cas.internal.com and external name for CAS is webmail.external.com.

I initially installed internal CA generated certificate for CAS server and outlook users didn't get any certificate warnings since I deployed CA certificate via GPO.  But after installing the third party issued certificate, users are getting certificate warnings when they open outlook client because name on the certificate and the server that outlook is contacting is different.

I assigned new certificate (third party issued) to IIS ,POP, and SMTP services while internal CA issued certificate to IMAP and SMTP.

How this issue can be resolved?

Certificate Error from Outlook

We're been using our Exchange Server for 3 years then suddenly a message appears every time they use their outlook application.  Regarding on our OWA certificate information, we don't find any problem with it. It affected all users from internal and external, the certificate error shows a message something like this.

mail.*****.com.com

the security certificate is from a trusted certifying authority

X400 and X500 records for a new user using a renamed account

Exchange 2010

We renamed an AD/Exchange account for a new user. This user still has the X400 and X500 records from the old user. The old users email needs to go to a different user (as an alias for both internal and external email). What's the easiest way to accomplish this?

TIA!

Randomly Getting StoragePermanentException after Exchange 2010 installation

$

Hi,

I am doing some testing of automating installation of Exchange 2010 on Windows 2008 R2 using Chef, and the isntallations seem to be working according to the setup logs.  But, as post-installation testing, I log into OWA as the domain Administrator user right after the installation attempt and sometimes, I get a StoragePermanentException error, similar (actually exactly like) to the one here:

http://msexchangeguru.com/2011/02/28/owa-error/

As I posted on that page comments, it seems like the 2nd solution, going into AD users and computers and checking the "inheritable" checkbox seems to fix the problem, and I think I even found a reference explaining what is causing the problem:

https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/949527

But, (a) I don't quite understand the explanation of the cause and (b) I don't understand why the problem would happen after some of the test installations, but not occur after other test installations.  Obviously, even though I am using Chef to perform the installation, I must be doing some "slightly" differently in the preparation to run the Chef run, but I can't figure out what that might be.

To test install, I have a base Windows 2008 R2 image, and then:

- I clone the Win2K8 R2 image and then run sysprep , then

- I re-IP the machine to point to the DNS on my domain controller, then

- I join the Win2K8 R2 machine to the domain.

I then initiate the Chef run to do the Exchange installation, and then I test accessing to OWA as the <domain>\Administrator user after the installation has completed.

What could it be that I'm doing that might cause this problem to occur sometimes and not others?

Thanks,

Jim

Atypical and seemingly random free-busy/oof issue

I have a free-busy/OOF issue that is driving me and my users insane.

Problem:

  • When an affected user attempts to use the scheduling assistant all attendees will show “No information. No free/busy information could be retrieved. Your server location could not be determined. Contact your administrator.”
  • When this occurs the user is not able to use Automatic Replies receiving the following error: “Your automatic reply settings cannot be displayed because the server is currently unavailable. Try again later.”
  • When this occurs the user is able to successfully use OWA and configure automatic replies from OWA.
  • When this occurs the user is not able to download address book via send/receive. It throws error 0x8004010F: The operation failed. An object cannot be found.
  • The issue is very intermittent. It affects different users, seemingly randomly, at different times and does not ever affect everyone at once. It will happen on average to about 3 users per day. Everyone else is fine.
  • Rebuilding the profile fixes it 100% of the time, but not permanently as the issue can return eventually to users whose profiles I have rebuilt.
  • It happens to clients using both Outlook 2010 and Outlook 2013. The Exchange Server is 2010 running on a Server 2008 R2 Enterprise VM.

Steps I have taken trouble shooting this:

  • I have checked the Exchange Connection Status when user is being affected by issue and itis using RPC/TCP. I have tested the email auto-configuration - AutoDiscoveris successful and it returns the correct OOF Url. I can also successfully browse to that url and read the xml page it returns on an affected client.
  • I have checked the Web Services Virtual Directory and verified that the correct server name is listed for both the Internal and External URL. I have also checked the permissions in IIS and they too appear to be correct. (Note: both the internal and external url are set to the external name. There is a local DNS entry that points internal requests to the local exchange server for both mail and autodiscover.)
  • I have verified that my certificate is valid and that the server name is correct in it. (I do sometimes see a security alert mentioning the name on the security certificate is invalid or does not match the name of the site locally. I assume this is because internally our fqdn is different than the external sites the cert was issued for).
  • I have checked the event logs on affected clients and have been unable to identify anything related to the issue.

Also, and I have yet to determine if this issue is related or not, but I have several users who will experience system hangs when using Outlook. Again, no errors or warnings in the event logs. This too is seemingly random and affects users on different hardware and with different versions of Outlook.

Exchange 2010; Email too big is going nowhere and no NDR

$

Hello All;

Well after banging my head all weekend on this issue, I need some insight and help.

Here is my current settings:
Exchange 2010 SP3 CU10
Server 2008R2

Here is my problem:
JohnDoe@company.com emails user@mydomain.com a email exceeding max limit, It goes no where. For example: JohnDoe@company.com (External) sends a email with a attachment of 16MB (Which is too big), It does not get delivered to userA@mydomain.com

So why does JohnDoe@company.com not receive a NDR saying the message was rejected due to size ? And if it was accepted by Exchange, Where is the email to deliver to userA@mydomain.com ?

Troubleshooting Steps

  • In Tracking Log Explorer; I can verify finding the message within exchange (As seen in the attachment)

  • There is no Items in the Queue
  • Message Tracking; The items were never received from that sender.
  • OWA & Outlook do not the message

Any insight would be greatly appreciated. Thanks so much.

Exchange 2010 servers can't communicate with Active Directory

Installed exchange2010 2 mailbox and 2 cas & hub servers over hyper v , everything worked well for 1 day .

Then EMC can not intliaze and exchange services on all servers suddenly stopped working .

Checked logs and all exchange servers they all report that they can not communicate with AD servers with the following events

Process MSEXCHANGEADTOPOLOGYSERVICE.EXE (PID=1780). Topology discovery failed, error 0x80040952 (LDAP_LOCAL_ERROR (Client-side internal error or bad LDAP message)).

"Process STORE.EXE (PID=4692). Topology discovery failed, error 0x80040952 (LDAP_LOCAL_ERROR (Client-side internal error or bad LDAP message)). Look up the Lightweight Directory Access Protocol (LDAP) error code specified in the event description. To do this, use Microsoft Knowledge Base article 218185, "Microsoft LDAP Error Codes." Use the information in that article to learn more about the cause and resolution to this error. Use the Ping or PathPing command-line tools to test network connectivity"

"Unable to initialize the Microsoft Exchange Information Store service. - Error 0x96f. "

"Error 0x96f connecting to Active Directory."

Although AD servers are functioning well and all dnssettings are correct . the domain/forest functional levels is windows 2008 R2

can you please help this is my production servers and iam clueless .

MSExchangeSA: The clocks on the client and server machines are skewed

The weird error happens on the mailbox servers from time to time:
System attendant fails to start with an error, "
Unexpected error The clocks on the client and server machines are skewed. ID no: 80090324 Microsoft Exchange System Attendant occurred."

The clocks are synchronized on all servers and domain controllers.

The workaround I use now is to restart MSExchangeADTopology service (which, alas, requires restart for all the exchnage services).

Two questions:
1) Is this a known bug? Is it going to be fixed?
2) Is MSExchangeADTopology dependency going to be removed in the RTM? I was so glad when System Attendant dependency was removed in E12, but in E14 we have got another single point of failure service. I have a feeling it will cause a lot of pain in the future.

Changed default first site name, now getting error in exchange Unhandled Exception "User setting 'PreferredSite' is not available. "

Hi everyone,

Our AD team changed the default first site name and now we are having our event logs flooding with errors. It says Unhandled Exception "User setting 'PreferredSite' is not available. " and its source is MSExchangeAutodiscover

I have checked and the auto discover is still pointing onto the Default First Site name but the mail flow is working perfect and I have tested everything. Pleas let me know if this is something to worry about ? Can I change the auto discover default site name to the new one without any impact on the production ?

Outlook & Exchange 2010 AutoDiscover and 2008 R2 Terminal Services

$

Hi,

I have a strange issue with Outlook 2010 in Terminal Server 2008 R2 which we don't have on the standard user desktops.

When setting up a new outlook profile it does not populate the user and server details. The setup has to be done manually. Once the profile is set up it works fine (except that Out of office does not work and Calendars do not show Free/Busy correctly). I understand this is a AutoDiscover issue (and I can fix this with putting a DNS entry in, but even without the cname entry in DNS it works fine on the user desktops), and looking at the two environments there is nothing that should be blocking the terminal servers in getting this information.

On the Terminal Servers if I run the Test E-mail AutoConfiguration the first thing it comes up with in the log tab is :

Start AD lookup for e-mail address

AD Lookup for e-mail address Failed (0x80070035)

This does not happen at all on the user desktops. It finds the email address without issue and populates the E-mail Address field.

Why is this happening ? What is there on the terminal server that is preventing outlook from correctly retrieving this information ? Is there and LDAP issue from the terminal server to the DC ? What can be done to fix it ?

Thanks

Event ID 2153 MSExchangeRepl error

I have a 4 server DAG and one of the passive database copies starts to get a high Replay Queue Length (RQL) during the same time that Event ID 2153 is written to the application logs with the following error message stating:

The log copier was unable to communicate with the server. The database copy is in a disconnected state. The communication error was: Communication was terminated by server <hosting the active DB Copy>. Data could not be read because the communication channel was closed. The copier will automatically retry after a short delay.

Now this error does not appear all the time but appears during the working hours in most cases. Each server in the DAG have the Mailbox, ClientAccess and HubTransport roles installed.

The version of Exchange is 14.3 Build 123.4 and it's running on a Windows Server 2008 R2 Datacenter server SP1.

Any assistance is much appreciated.

Can anyone tell me what role gives a users access to the Phone & Voice section of ECP?

We only want a couple of our admin staff to be able to approve quarantined mobile devices and I can't seem to find the role that does this and really don't want to leave it wide open for them.

Offline address book not updating.

To give an overview.  I have a Server 2008 box with Exchange 2007 SP2 Installed on it.  That was my first exchange server.  I installed Exchange 2010 SP3 on a completely new Server 08 R2 machine.  I have noticed the following errors in event viewer.   I am not sure how to fix it so that the Offline address book is generated correctly.

OABGen encountered error 80004005 (internal ID 50103b7) accessing the public folder database while generating the offline address list for address list '/'.
- \Default Offline Address Book

OABGen encountered error 80004005 while cleaning the offline address list public folders under /o=Company Name/cn=addrlists/cn=oabs/cn=Default Offline Address Book.  Please make sure the public folder database is mounted and replicas exist of the offline address list folders.  No offline address lists have been generated.  Please check the event log for more information.
- \Default Offline Address Book

I have verified that the public folders DB is mounted, but I still can't get an Offline address book to generate.  I have 4 new users that are not showing up in Outlook's offline address book.  If I use OWA or non-cached mode of Outlook the new users are showing up with no issues.   I havent uninstalled the old Exchange server, but it is powered off at the moment.

Thanks,

David

edit-- AD servers are in the same AD site.  I have IPv6 disabled on the server
