How to check Mail traffic on Exchange 2010 HUB and Mailbox server

Hi All,

I have Exchange 2010 CAS/HUB role installed on one box and mailbox role on other box. We are in the process of decommissioning one site which includes Exchange servers also with CAS HUB and MBX role.

I have already moved mailboxes and moved to other site, removed all the DB's in that site exchange servers.

Now, I want to check for any mail traffic that is still hitting the HUB servers here before decommisioning. if any relay is happening from any application.

Any thoughts or suggestion please would be highly appreciated.

Error on OAB when Schedule update was ran

Hello Everyone,

I got the following errors in exchange event viewer when Schedule update Run

OABGen encountered an error while generating the differential downloads of address list '\All Users'. The offline address book has not been updated so clients will not be able to download the current set of changes. Check other logged events to find the cause of this error.

OABGen failed to load the OAB version 4 manifest file '\\Mailserver\OAB\978d3075-fb77-4322-af44-ad728039e00a\oab.xml'. This may indicate data tampering or disk problems. Restore files in this folder from the recent backup or clean up folder content and force a full OAB generation.

- \Default Offline Address Book

OALGen encountered an error ffffffff (internal ID 50509a0) while generating address list '\All Users'. Check other logged events to see if this is a serious error.

OALGen skipped some entries in the offline address list '\All Users'. To see which entries are affected, event logging for the OAL Generator must be set to at least medium.

Exchange 2010 suddenly doesn't receive external emails

Hi

I have an Exchange server 2010 (on a HyperV VM) running already for quite some time – never had any problems. All the latest updates are installed.
The server is behind a <g class="gr_ gr_40 gr-alert gr_spell gr_inline_cards gr_run_anim ContextualSpelling ins-del multiReplace" data-gr-id="40" id="40">dyn</g> DNS and sending via a <g class="gr_ gr_41 gr-alert gr_spell gr_inline_cards gr_run_anim ContextualSpelling ins-del multiReplace" data-gr-id="41" id="41">smarthost</g> of my provider.
The MX record etc is set up correctly and receiving was never an issue.

One week ago suddenly my server stopped receiving external emails and also internal ones weren't coming reliably.
I saw that all external emails landed in the POP3 mailboxes of my provider. This is something (second MX with lower <g class="gr_ gr_43 gr-alert gr_spell gr_inline_cards gr_run_anim ContextualSpelling ins-del multiReplace" data-gr-id="43" id="43">prio</g>) that is for backup in case my server is down.
Also usually these emails get pulled from the mailboxes using a POP3 collector. All that was always working.

This time the POP3 collector logged Error 0 SMTP server (my Exchange 2010) isn't reachable. After dozens of restarts, this doesn't seem to happen anymore.
BUT I still don't receive external emails directly – they always end up in the POP3 mailboxes first and then get pulled.

Also, my Exchange doesn't seem to be reachable using HELO or EHLO. I always get 451 4.7.0

I've never changed anything to any settings.
Disk space on my server is still 6.5 GB free
The Queue file is 65 MB (so not too large)
I disabled the Blocklist provider (set up in my Hub) - no change
I also noticed that some emails (internal and ones pulled via POP3) are sometimes showing up in the inbox with a strange delay (sometimes hours)

I couldn't find an answer so far?
Do you have an idea?

How do I check litigationholdenabled flag via powershell

I don't see any way to get a list of mailboxes where litgationhold is 'true' via powershell.  Looking at the SP1 documenation for get-mailbox it looks like this is not possible.   Any ideas on to check this?

 

Exchange Server 2010 - Calendar Reminder Not Showing Up

I didn't see an exchange 2010 option under forum so I am writing it under Exchange Server 2013. Our live environment is running Office 2010 on exchange server 2010. We migrated some users to Outlook 2016 and moved them to the newer server. We had to move the users back to exchange 2010. We are able to get emails to be distributed but calendar reminders aren't showing up. I've checked the registry settings and outlook options as well. I've reinstalled Outlook several times and even tried launching outlook in clean mode. Any suggestions on where else I can look?

Dear Experts,

We Migrated from ISA Server 2006 to Palo Alto 820 Firewall.

The Exchange Server version is 2010 (Cas ,Hub Server on the same Physical Server)

ISA and Exchange have the Certificates for Local Email Access and for External Email Access Authentication.

Previously Decryption of Emails took place in ISA now Palo Alto does not do decryption therefore since the Migration receiving Install Certificate Popup for Emails in All outlook of endpoints in local and on external Email Outlook.

Help is appreciated.

Two mailboxes in a very large Mailbox database store.

Hi,

We have migrated all our user mailboxes from our Exchange 2010 mailserver to O365.  The server currently serves as a Hybrid server between our domain and O365. We have a 400GB mailbox database store left over after the move.   Currently the only two mailboxes that are in that database store are the Administrator and Discovery Search Mailbox.

What I would like to do is Create a new mailbox database and do a local move of those two mailboxes to the newly created mailbox store.  Once that is done, I would like to then delete the old 400GB mailbox store.

Is this a good process?  Are there any other services (e.g. OAB) that have to be moved on the Hybrid server?

Sometimes emails go to the wrong mailbox

Hi,

Super strange issue here, sometimes UserA's email end up appearing in UserB's junk folder.

UserA does have delegate permissions to UserB's mailbox - but that shouldn't cause this.

UserA is the only person the email is to and UserA also have the email.

There are no forwards on.

There are no rules in place or OoF.

There are no duplicate emails addresses, aliases, GUIDs and it does not happen to all emails. It did it this week for 4 emails in the period of an hour and then has not done it again since (yet, I say yet as this is not the first time).

Looking in the message tracking logs, I can only see the emails from the external sender being delivered in to UserA's mailbox - nothing to UserB's.

This is Exchange 2010 SP3 RU21.

Anti Spam is not enabled.

I have no idea how this is happening. UserA has been with the company for years so this mailbox was definitely upgraded from 2003 version which may have something to do with it - however, I have looked through ADSIedit and can't see anything that would indicate this behaviour.

I am getting approval to turn on mailbox auditing for these two mailboxes - but that may take a while and once on, the issue could take a while to happen again.

Any ideas what else this could be?

Exchange 2010 Hybrid Office 365 SSL certificate issue

We have an Exchange 2010 Office 365 hybrid setup operating. It has been working for about 4 years now and is fully patched up. All mailboxes are located in Exchange Online. Autodiscover is pointing to our hybrid on premise server as recommended by Microsoft. The SSL certificate on the on premise server was about to expire so we replaced it with a newly purchased one. We removed the old certificate completely from the on premise Exchange and also double checked it was removed from the certificate store. I applied a new certificate which applied fine.

The problem is that when our Outlook 2016 clients and connecting to the on premise Exchange server they are getting the certificate error. Stating that the certificate has expired. You can press view certificate and it is showing the old, expired certificate that was removed and deleted. I can’t for the life of me work out why this is still occurring and how it is seeing this certificate which has been removed from the EMC and the server’s certificate store.
Any help appreciated.

SP3 installed and now Mailtips aren't showing, shared calendars not showing

Updated exchange 2010 to SP3 on Sunday, and now mailtips aren't showing, shared calendars aren't showing.  OWA is working..

Nothing else was changed. 

Can't run testconnectivity...  because the site won't verify.. 

All suggestions welcome.

Release mailroom appointments

Hello everyone,

First of all sorry about my english level. This issue happens on a 2010 Exchange Server.

So i'm having issues with deleting appointments for like 60 mailrooms that a user reserved before getting fired.

I'm running this script on the exchange server:

Get-Mailbox -RecipientTypeDetails roommailbox | Search-Mailbox -searchquery "kind:meetings from:user" -deletecontent

I don't know if the script is right for the task, if i'm deleting appointments for other people, if i'm rejecting meetings for the user but the room keeps reserved or if i'm missing something else.

This is one of the confirmation message i've got when the script is executed:

The user and mail were erased from ad and exchange, and i'm seeking a script to erase the appointments instead of creating the user, logging in as him and releasing the rooms (Don't know if it's going to work either way).

New Certificate in Exchange 2010 with Office 365 ProPlus

We have a 2010 Exchange server where we've installed a new multi-domain certificate.  The previous certificate was a wildcard certificate that was installed by the previous MSP.  I was advised that it's better to have a multi-domain certificate in place for an exchange server rather than a wildcard cert as they cannot be applied to all services.  

After purchasing a multi-domain cert with the autodiscover. legacy. mail. and base domain, we started having issues from our off-site outlook users. 

Outlook, provided through office 365 ProPlus, the version without exchange cloud services, was prompting for a login when starting up, and was complaining that a certificate was invalid.  As a side note, the federated services certificate STS.<domain.com> is valid, and we've had no problems with it.  

After advice from our cert distributor, we discovered that outlook was asking for two domains: 

_kerberos._tcp.default-first-site-name._sites.dc._msdcs.<domain.com>

_kerberos._tcp.dc._msdcs.<domain.com>

To the best of my knowledge these would not resolve from a 3rd party location, but because they're not on the certificate, could they be causing the problem, or am I barking up the wrong tree?  Does the fact that these are unexpectedly trying to resolve indicate a configuration problem, or because we're using office 365, does that somehow require us to have to use a wildcard certificate moving forward?  

This is unfortunately a new area for me, and any assistance or insight would be much appreciated.

IMAP Fatal Error

I have an Exchange 2010 server that is dropping IMAP connections regularly. I see the following Error in the Application Log

I am running 2010 SP3 RU 20 but don't see anything in the release notes for RU21 or 22 referring to a similar issue. It seems the issue started shortly after installing RU20 so i will plan the update to RU22. But not sure if there is anything else to try as well.

Import non-Exchanged e-mail addresses into GAL

We have Active Directory Domain on WS2008 Core.
We used non-microsoft mail in our organization. AD admins manually insert mail addresses for mail user in account properties page (attribute E-mail).
Now we want to use mail solution based on Exchange 2010. We installed trial version of the product. We created mailboxes for test users in exchange console. Other users are still working on non-microsoft mail system (*nix).
On this stage we want that users which have non-Exchange mail entries were in address book of Exchange users.
I can not import non-exchange mail entries in newly created address list because of this users are not mailusers of exchange.

How can we create address book which contains mail users of non-Exchange system?

ActiveSync debug logging resets to $false after a while

Hi, in my Exhchange 2010, for a user, I need to keep the activesync logging enabled until I stop it. Maybe one week or one month. I noticed that ActiveSyncDebugLogging resets to $false after a while. Is it by design this behaviour? I didn't find anything about a timeout in technet reference documentation. Is there a way to keep the logging enabled for an undefinite time?

Outlook 2016 cannot connect to Exchange 2010 PF / Outlook 2010 can

Hello to all,

we have an Exchange 2010/2016 mixed environment and are facing the issue that Outlook 2016 cannot acces PF on an Exchange 2010 CU14 with the users mailbox on an Exchange 2016 CU9. Strangely enough Outlook 2010 with the same user account can and works fine.

Can you help me on that?

Is it required to have a CAS Role is installed on the MDB server?

Default calendar permission

Hi Gurus,

I'm trying to set the default calendar permission for all users across the board so that the default user have access rights (reviewer)

When i use this command individually it works fine:

Set-MailboxFolderPermission -Identity name@domain.com:\calendar  -User default -AccessRights reviewer

But when i try to use this command to set the same permission for all users it doesn't work, it comes with no errors but the permission is not applied.

Set-MailboxFolderPermission -Identity "$($Mailbox.Name):\calendar"  -User default -AccessRights reviewer

I have tried this one from another forum but its coming with lost of errors per each mailbox

foreach ($Mailbox in (Get-Mailbox -ResultSize Unlimited)) { Add-MailboxFolderPermission -identity "$($Mailbox.Name):\calendar" -AccessRights reviewer -User Default }

The error im getting is:

An existing permission entry was found for user: Default.

SMTP dies every 6- 8 hours

Two exchange 2010 SP3 servers that have worked for years.

About 2 weeks back I noticed the SMTP was dead on one.

All services are running.

I restarted and it worked ok for 8 hours then stopped answering.

I switched incoming mail flow to the other server and the same behaviour occurs.

The server which is not getting the incoming traffic but just a few local emails doesn't fail. Again it doesn't matter which one it is.

I have had all logging on at expert level and see a lot of event id 2128 where it cannot find objects on the DC yet when I look using ADSIedit they exist and seem to have the correct permissions.

Not sure what I am looking for.

Hi All,

i have one file which contains data in below format

UserId,Entitlement,ProjectName
MZ7997,UDC_Dev,abc
mz7947,admin,abc
JH2662,UDC_Dev,xyz
jh8262,UDC_Dev,abc
EG7908,dev,xyz

These are array of string values and i want to convert it into a csv file with UserId,Entitlement,ProjectName as header and corresponding values.

I tried below code:

$finalVal.GetEnumerator() | Export-Csv -Path $newCsv

However i am getting output as:

Shared Calendar on mobile device

Had a request from a user to be able to access a shared Calendar on their mobile device. This would be an Outlook Calendar someone shared out to them or a Calendar of a shared mailbox they have access to.

I don't believe ActiveSync will allow more than one mailbox so I have no idea how someone would add a shared Calendar in addition to the mailbox. Anyone every try this? We are running Exchange 2010 SP3 and Office 2016.
