Greetings,
I've recently experienced a serious disaster scenario with my one and only Domain Controller (yes, just the one) that resulted in me having to restore from an old backup. My problem is that my active Exchange Server was installed after that backup was taken.
A simplified summary of events:
Day1: Existing Exchange installed and functional in existing AD
DC1
MSX1
Day2: New DC installed
DC1
DC2
MSX1
Day3: AD roles transferred and Old DC decommissioned
DC2
MSX1
Day4: New Exchange server installed into existing exchange org
DC2
MSX1
MSX2
Day5: mailboxes etc migrated from old to new exchange, old exchange decomm
DC2
MSX2
Day6: total failure of AD, DC2 lost. Restore back to DC1 equiv at Day1
DC1
MSX2
So basically I now have the old DC1 running again, but with the new MSX2 as my exchange server. Active Directory has the properties of the exhange org from when MSX1 was the exchange server, but knows nothing about MSX2
What is the best way for me to restore the Exchange Server? Is there a Repair option I can run on the server to re-create the AD objects? Would it be easier to just install a new Exchange 2013 server and copy/migrate the databases across somehow?
Any suggestions most greatfully accepted
Scott.
